About SanskarHindu Sanskar Radio is the latest addition to the Sabras mix, adding to the variety of programmes that are already on offer. The aims of Hindu Sanskar Radio are to raise cultural, social, religious, educational and economical awareness among ethnic listeners through program production. Twenty two people are involved in the running of the group, four of whom are committee members, and all the people involved are volunteers. Sanskar broadcasts on DAB Digital Radio Asian Plus for eighteen hours everyday. Shows are broadcast from Radio House, and the programmes cater for men, women and children, young and old. Each program aims to assist the community members who have little insight of the Hindu faith and religion, as well as broadening the knowledge of those who are aware of Hinduism, and may be followers of it. All types of religious Hindu music are featured throughout every show. This organisation adopts equal opportunities in all areas. It shows a commitment to equal opportunity within the work it undertakes by welcoming men, women and children from the ethnic minority community to take part in the management and production of radio broadcast. Everyone involved in running Hindu Sanskar radio is bi-lingual, which means that people listening to Sanskar Radio who may not be familiar with certain languages are still able to communicate effectively with presenters of the show. The venue from which Hindu Sanskar Radio is broadcast provides access for disabled people, as well as for people who are hard of hearing. Members of the community in Leicestershire live in a multi-cultural society; it is important that they are aware of their culture, as well as other cultures and traditions. They need to learn how to live harmoniously with people of different religions and races. Each Sanskar Radio program brings awareness of different cultures by broadcasting topics on various issues, which provides listeners with ideas, knowledge and understanding of the multi-cultural community. |
